We had such a wonderful time in a land rich with inheritance. My first stop was to reunite with the Destiny House family and go to Basilea Schlink's convent together in Darmstadt, Germany. Was so special to talk and pray together with the nuns and experience their joy and deep friendships with each other. We got to swap stories of living in intentional community together.

The next day we got to go to Neuschwanstein Castle that inspired Walt Disney. Was fascinating hearing the story about King Ludwig and the creative genius he was but how society never understood him.

Then we got to minister at a BSSM ministry school plant in Füssen,Germany Monday and Tuesday. It was wonderful being back together with Kat, Elisa, Lara and seeing Juliette too. The first session the Holy Spirit crashed in and we ended up just worshipping and waiting on God the whole session and He touched hearts deeply. The following sessions were filled with restoring the inheritance Germany carried by sharing stories about Martin Luther, Johann Blumhardt, Zinzedorf and the Moravians. Reminding them of their roots was powerful. Then we finished it off with a session about Destiny House and the need to cultivate family if we want revival to be sustainable. Hearts were deeply moved and catalyzed to make more intentional time and space to build deeper friendships and re-prioritize family.

One of the things that was so encouraging to hear while there was when many of the leaders who used to be BSSM students came to me and told me how the session on the Welsh revival that I, Kat, and Elisa did for BSSM 1st year 3 years ago profoundly impacted their lives. One of the leaders told me how that was the first time He encountered God in a significant way and will never forget it. Was so encouraging to hear about how a deposit from years ago is still bearing fruit. I also later ran into another BSSM student who shared the testimony of how he had a defining moment while at one of our worship encounter nights as Destiny House 2 years ago. From there we went to Lörrachto be a part of the first ever School of Awakening. 156 mostly evangelists from around the world to take part. More than the incredible teaching and impartation, I was most profoundly impacted by the Thursday night session where God came in such a deep and tender way where we continued in worship and in His presence instead of the teaching. My heart experienced something that I only usually feel when I personally minister but rarely get to experience and receive for myself in other meetings. There was deep healing, stillness, and weightiness of God's presence in that place and I felt His love melt down walls in my heart in such a powerful way. I'm so grateful the leadership recognized that the moment we had with God was more important than any teaching they could give.

The other thing that marked me even more than the revelatory teaching was the culture of the Awakening Europe team led by Ben Fitzgerald. They were just family who loved each other and loved Jesus with their whole hearts doing what God was leading them to do together. There was such honor, partnership, and celebration in their midst. So inspiring.

I am looking forward to investing more into Europe and receiving from the deep wells there in the coming years as the Lord leads. I'm super grateful for those who prayed or sowed into this trip. Blessing you all with more fire and deeper connection with family!

What a year 2017 has been! Through all of the ups and downs, what a difference being knit together in a family with other burning hearts makes. Destiny House has continued to go strong in 2017, building on the vision of worship being released in the context of family weekly for 100 years straight every Friday morning. Only 93 more years to go to continue in the Moravians' legacy!

Songs, dances, ministries, missionaries, voices, and revivalist have been birthed from this place of encounter with God and connection to family at Destiny House. In addition to our brother house Elisha's Room and friendship house (Azusa House), we have also had two loose knit alumni houses spring up this year as well as have launched our first official Destiny House guy's house called The Father's Call. We also had the opportunity to do our first international ministry trip as Destiny House when we took a team to Thailand. We launched our first E-Course this year as well as impacted many authors through the Writing in the Glory workshops. We added Kim Fisher to our team to help as our financial strategist and Michael Broduer who is serving as a leadership consultant. This was a year of people getting their voices back in a powerful way. We are so grateful for the opportunity to lead people into a lifestyle of intimacy with Jesus and connection with family. Each of you reading this right now has something special inside of you that God has shaped, formed, and destined for you to release to the world. Your heart is valuable and precious to God. Your journey is unique. You are important and what you have to say is significant. There is great purpose in every single twist and turn in your life. Only you can release the message God is forming inside of you to the world because only you have had your specific experiences that have helped mold it.

There are people right now who are crying out to God to receive what you carry. People waiting for you to be bold and courageous to share your heart so that they can receive breakthrough. God’s story in your life is powerful to unlock doors in people’s hearts and to set them free. His faithfulness in your journey is a beacon of hope for those still in a storm.

Before you came to be, God handcrafted and knit you together in your mother’s womb. You are uniquely and wonderfully made. God understands everything about you (Psalm 139)! He is so in love with you and proud of you for always running to Him in times of trouble and in times of simply wanting to draw near.

Shame no longer has control over your life because He has ALREADY paid the price with His own precious blood to free you from its hold. It’s a done deal.  You are already free. It’s now time to walk in the truth of that reality and realize the great value God has placed on your very life by sending His only Son in exchange for your life. That’s how worth it you are to Him. The gift has already been paid for and given.

Arise and shine, you were born for such a time as this. Your voice is important and what you have to say to the world will shake nations and impact generations. The world needs to hear what’s on your heart. I need to hear what’s on your heart. I pray for the deep, intense, blue flame of God’s love to utterly consume you right now and for there to be such a burning inside that you can no longer keep it to yourself.

Five hundred years ago, on October 31, 1517, German born Martin Luther (1483-1546) challenged the religious system of his day by posting his 95 Theses on a church door in Wittenberg. This one act ignited a flame that set things in motion to reform the Christianity of his day, thus beginning the Protestant Reformation.

This Reformation paved the way for us to experience the religious freedom we have today. Only once in every 500 years does a generation get the chance to celebrate such a milestone. As we reflect and look back at all of the spiritual territory that has been gained in the last 500 years, one must ask the question, why are we alive for such a time as this? What greater breakthroughs are ours to step into today so that for the next 500 years and beyond, people are walking in a greater inheritance in Christ? Let’s learn more about how we can position ourselves to tap into the momentum of what God has done in the past so that we can be launched into a greater destiny.

Ignited

While Martin Luther (1483-1546) was midway through his semester at law school in a nearby town in Germany, he decided to journey home to visit his family. On July 2, 1505 he got caught in a thunderstorm and was nearly hit by a bolt of lightning. Fearful of his life, he called out to heaven and made the promise that if he was delivered from the storm, he would become a monk.[1] His life was spared. Two weeks later, true to his word, he joined the Augustinian order. In November 1510 - April 1511, he journeyed to Rome and was disillusioned by the hypocrisy he witnessed going on within the Catholic Church. This seed of discontent with the church would later grow. In 1512, Luther received his doctorate and then moved to Wittenberg to become a theology professor. In 1515, he studied Romans 1:17 and had the revelation that he was justified by faith. For the first time he began to realize his salvation in Christ was a gift and not something he had to earn. This book marked him so deeply that he eventually wrote a commentary on the book of Romans.

About a year later, Dominican priest Johann Tetzel came to his town to sell indulgences (penance and pardons to pay for sins). Luther was outraged at his approach and disagreed with certain premises behind this activity. The same night Fredrick the Wise was due to offer indulgences on All Saints Day on October 31, 1517, Luther posted his 95 Theses on the Castle Church door. His 95 Theses, also known as the Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences, were translated from Latin into German, printed on the newly invented Gutenberg printing press, and then quickly spread throughout Europe.

Luther’s 95 Theses were not initially intended to be a refined amendment to the pope. Originally, this was an act of inviting people to debate over these issues within the Catholic Church. However, God breathed on his declaration for justice and it served to be the catalyst to set things in motion for the Protestant Reformation which in turn transformed a religious system. Luther later translated the Bible from Latin into German so that common people could read it in their own language. He gave people the opportunity to encounter God on their own from the Bible.

This reformation brought religious freedom and freedom from the religious spirit. It transformed a religious system and freed people to be able to worship God in spirit and in truth. Old wine skins were challenged; new wine skins were overflowing with the wine from heaven. A new paradigm for the church was released where the common person could now connect with God without having to go through a priest. The world is continuing to experience the ripple effects from Martin Luther following his convictions October 31st and by his leadership throughout the Reformation.[2]

Ripple Effect: The Great Awakening

Over 200 years later, on May 24, 1738 in London, John Wesley (1703-1791) “went very unwillingly to a society in Aldersgate Street, where one was reading Luther’s preface to the Epistle to the Romans.”[3] In that moment, Wesley felt his heart “strangely warmed” and was marked by the love of God like never before.[4] Not long after this encounter, Wesley met with his community to pray and worship into the New Year 1739 where “the power of God came mightily upon” them.[5] This gathering of hearts became the catalytic flame to ignite the Great Awakening. Following this outpouring, John Wesley and his brother Charles, later founded the Methodist Movement where they raised up, trained, and launched many lay people into the ministry. Another new paradigm for church was born.[6]

The Significance of October 31st

Nearly 400 years after the Protestant Reformation was birthed, Evan Roberts preached for the first time at Moriah Chapel in Wales on October 31, 1904, the anniversary of the Reformation. When 17 people got saved that night, it was catalytic for the Welsh Revival, which brought in over 100,000 salvations in less than five months and would later influence the beginnings of the Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles in 1906. October 31st marks the beginnings of two very significant and influential moves of God centuries apart, making this day a deep well of revival to tap into.[7] 

Momentum of the Ages

Luther’s act of following his convictions and not being afraid to challenge the status quo has continued to impact us 500 years later. The momentum has already begun. Martin Luther, the Moravians, John Wesley, Evan Roberts and many others have already paved the way for us to walk in great freedom today. This is not a new wave of revival but one that has been building for generations. The Reformation, The Great Awakening, The Welsh Revival, and other moves of God are all contributing to the momentum of this upcoming billion-soul harvest, third great awakening, and new wave on the horizon. 

What are we going to do today with the ground already gained on our behalf? How will we position ourselves to build upon the momentum that has gone before us? What further ground needs to be taken to advance God’s Kingdom in our generation today so that it will set things in motion for the next 500 years ahead? We are in a historic shift with this 500-year anniversary. God is calling us to a new level of holiness, consecration, connection, surrender, and possession of the Holy Spirit. This is necessary so that this upcoming wave of revival will not crush us. It’s time to walk in purity, passion, and total obedience so that when the swell comes, we are positioned to ride the biggest wave of revival this world has ever seen!

I encourage you, like Luther, to be courageous to speak out against injustices or what you know isn’t right. What you tolerate will dominate. Now is the time to take a stand for what you believe in. Step out and use the voice God has given you to communicate your heart. Generations are waiting for you to arise and shine. I bless you with courage to live from the depths of your heart today. May you be baptized in the love of God and be ignited with a fresh Reformation fire that burns deep within you today, all for His glory.

[7] Even before these movements were catalyzed, the early Middle Ages refer to October 31st as having roots in an Ancient Celtic pagan festival of Samhain (summer’s end) where some believe that this is the exact day when the physical and spiritual world’s are the closest. Many also celebrated of the end of harvest and beginning of winter this day. In the year 609, Pope Gregory III introduced May 13 as a Catholic holiday to honor saints and martyrs called All Saints’ or All Hallows Day. In 835, the date was changed to November 1, the same day as the Samhain. If we knew ahead of time that the Azusa Street Revival (1906) was coming, how would we prepare for it? What about the Welsh Revival, the Jesus People Movement, the Protestant Reformation, or the Great Awakening?

There’s been prophecy after prophecy about another great awakening, a billion soul harvest, a third great wave of revival approaching. From my years of studying revival history, there are a few insights I wanted to share that I believe will help us all to position ourselves to catch the next wave and prepare for this incoming move of God.

1. REMAIN OPEN

It is important to remain open and to realize that revival in our day might look different from what we expect. In the 1970s, many were not prepared for revival to come through the hippies in the Jesus People Movement. In the Azusa Street Revival in 1906, people began to speak in tongues, which was a newer manifestation in their day. Many who led the previous revivals were the first to criticize this new move of God because they didn’t understand what was going on (see Ignite Azusa). However, those who remained open and hungry for all God had for them even if it looked different from what they expected were able to embrace the new move of God in their day.

We need to be careful not to miss what God is doing because it comes in a different package than what we imagined. I want to encourage you not to throw out the baby out with bath water. Beautiful babies are born with a mess all around them. Don’t be afraid of a mess. Keep your eyes on what God is doing, not on the counterfeits or on what He’s not doing. If you don’t understand what’s happening, seek understanding and then yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit even if it feels uncomfortable.

In Matthew 14, Jesus came out to the disciples walking on the lake in the midst of a storm. Their friend was standing right there in front of them but they mistook Him for a ghost because He came out of context and not how they expected Him to come. Don’t let the storms distract you from seeing Jesus (see Walking on Water).

 

2. KEEP FOCUSSED

When you do find Jesus in the midst of the whirlwinds surrounding new moves of God, keep your eyes fixed on Him no matter what’s going on around Him. As we stay focused on the One Thing, our heart will burn with greater passion and fire for Jesus than ever before (Psalm 27). The origin of the word focus is influenced by the Latin word used for fire. “What we focus on shapes our lives and determines who we will become” (see the chapter called Focus in Walking on Water).

When we focus on Jesus and on those things He has entrusted us with in each season, this will help make us ready. It’s also important to make sure we’re not holding anything that's not ours to carry this season or else we won't have open arms to receive what God is bringing next. A great and regular prayer you can pray to stay in the fire of His love is, “God, send Your fire in every area of my life and burn away anything that is not of You for this season. Refine and bring to the surface the gold.” It’s important to steward holiness and a consecrated life because the pure in heart will see God (Matthew 5:8).

 

3. STAY FULL OF THE OIL

God wants us to stay full of the oil. It’s so important that we steward the Secret Place in our hearts and spend time deepening our relationship with Jesus so that when the time comes to enter into greater depths with Him, we are ready (Matthew 25). 

We are living wells and it is important to steward, guard, protect, deepen, and open that well. Wherever we go, out of our bellies will flow rivers of living water (John 7:37-38).

 

4. INVEST IN FAMILY

Family houses the revival fire. Relationships are so important, which is why Jesus always referred to God as His Father. There was connection there.

“Ministry and fruitfulness flow from intimacy with God and also from a place of being knit together with the family of God. When not just one person seeks first the Kingdom of God, but a community does this together, it expands our capacity to carry what God wants to release. Seeking Him first in and with family will take you places you could never go on your own, beyond your wildest dreams” (excerpt taken from Walking on Water).

 5. CHOOSE LOVE

Unity with the whole Body of Christ is crucial. Carrie Judd Montgomery (1858-1946), a healing revivalist who founded some of the earliest healing homes in the nation including the Home of Peace in Oakland, CA (still there to this day), chose to embrace the new experience of speaking in tongues many associated with Baptism of the Holy Spirit during the Azusa Street Revival. She in fact, encouraged her friends to have this same experience. When her friend, founder of Christian and Missionary Alliance, A.B. Simpson, did not speak in tongues like all of her new Pentecostal friends, she didn’t cut him off or think of him as lesser. She maintained and continued to grow in friendship with him because she valued relationships more than debates about non-essentials (see Life on Wings). We can learn from her example to choose relationships over and above denominational ties and differences in manifestations. Love is the key (1 Corinthians 13).

DON’T BE AFRAID TO SHINE

I don’t believe in a nameless faceless revival. While we want Jesus to be the name above all other names and for everyone to participate, God will appoint and anoint leaders to help lead this generation into the more. There was a Moses, a Joshua, a David, an Evan Roberts, a William J. Seymour, and other leaders who played a significant part in partnering with God to lead their generation into all that He had for them.

I am saying this to encourage myself just as much as I am exhorting you. Don’t be afraid to shine, to lead, and to be a voice. If God has anointed you as a leader, then LEAD! If people are following you then you know you're a leader whether you want to admit it or not. Don’t hesitate to step into the fullness of leadership God has called you to walk in out of fear that you will become prideful or steal God’s glory. Trust in Him and trust yourself. If God has appointed and anointed you, He will walk with you through the favor. True leaders are servants and walk in great humility. The more you are honored, the more crowns you will have to throw at the feet of Jesus. If your influence grows, what an incredible opportunity to use that influence to impact even more people for JESUS! 

Steward, embrace and accept the gift God has entrusted you with. I urge you not to sacrifice the gift God has given you or sabotage the calling on your life because you’re afraid to shine or you feel inadequate. Don’t lay down the gift that He gave you to use and steward for His glory. He has given you your unique gifts to serve your generation in humility and love. Embrace the gifts He’s given you so that you can become all He’s destined you to become and to lift His name higher.

I bless you to step into your rightful position in this generation and to lead with great love and humility, fixing your eyes upon Jesus always and stepping out in great faith as the Spirit leads you. And finally, I exhort you by the power and the blood of Jesus to rise up. This generation needs you to be all who you are called to be. Today may you

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you...”

Jennifer A. This season we are doing a couple things we have never done before. For the first time in over 5 years of continual corporate worship on Friday mornings at Destiny House, we are temporarily closing down Friday morning worship time for the public. July 28, 2017 will be our last corporate worship session of the summer open to all, after that we will keep you posted when we re-open our doors, likely on Sept 22.

This was a hard decision but something we felt would bear much fruit in the future. We will continue to steward the 100 year vision of worship as family in the house during a different time each week but just with our core leaders and family who live at Destiny House. We feel the need in this season to spend this time to reconnect with each other and dream about the future in a smaller group so that we can step into the next season fully connected and ready to pour out from a place of rest and family. We also want to have a chance to welcome the incoming students who will be living with us in a smaller setting to help them settle in easier and give us a chance to get to know each other more quickly. We highly encourage our extended Destiny House family whom we love so dearly to grab some friends and continue to meet on Fridays to do worship and prayer together so you stay in the similar rhythm for when we open the doors again, likely mid-late September.

We also have another upcoming change we would love your prayers for. As many of you know, a few years ago, we had the opportunity to launch a guy’s partner house called Elisha’s Room under the leadership of Cornelius Quek, a father to Destiny House and the vice President of our non-profit. This year we are also excited to announce that we are launching an official guys Destiny House right next door to the main house where we host our worship times. Felix Fels, one of the BSSM students from my Pioneering Revival class is applying what he has learned to help pioneer this new house, The Father’s Call House. We are so excited and expectant to see God move even more by integrating more brothers in Christ into our community.

This summer June 9-18, 2017, Destiny House family had the privilege of partnering together alongside the saints of God with what He is doing in Asia. Thailand has less than 1% Christians and we had the honor to influence many leaders who will shape the future of Christianity there.

As we began to minister, the overarching prophetic word over the country I kept getting is:

“If you will make space for God, He will make space for you.

If you make room for Him, then He will come."

Most of the trip was about demonstrating what it looks like to wait on God. Most of our sessions included making space for the Holy Spirit to move and then yielding to whatever He was doing. This was revolutionary for many we ministered to as they were used to a set schedule of events with the order of worship, teaching, and then ministry. We were able to cultivate a space for them to simply Encounter the living God.Here’s a brief recap of our trip.

CHIANG MEI: Fire of God Come

The Friday night (June 9, 2017) we met with the leaders and missionaries God crashed in a powerful way. There was a Holy stillness as we waited upon God and simply sat at His feet with our only agenda to encounter and love Him together. The glory of God increased and people were marked by His presence that evening. 

After this session where I called people to commit to get reconciled with anyone whom they felt the Holy Spirit highlighted, the man in the red shirt called his daughter and was reunited together after 2 years apart!

This missionary couple told me that they've been in a desert and the night we ministered was the first time they were able to drink in 15 years.

The Saturday we got to enjoy a time of play which included riding elephants, floating down a river on a raft, trekking to find a waterfall, and playing in the rain!!!

Sunday (June 11, 2017) we had the privilege of blessing the children and then I released a message about how it's all about Jesus. 

In the afternoon, our team split up to each lead a separate home group. Daystar imparted a heart for missions to the children, Glory and Leah activated the youth in the prophetic, Amy raised up evangelists, Tamra prayed for everyone and they were healed and also baptized in the Holy Spirit, and I equipped the leaders in how to position their hearts to steward and welcome the incoming revival.

That evening the pastors took our team out to a fancy restaurant with the coolest bathrooms you ever did see. What a gift to have Ark, Matthew & Grace, and Ark's parents who are the pastors welcome is in. It immediately felt like family and was so special. We love them dearly and will return one day soon.

BANGKOK: Human Trafficking

Tuesday (June 13, 2017) we had the privileged to meet at the office of and with the directors of A21, Malina and Steph and hear their hearts and personal stories of rescuing people out of Human trafficking, especially but not limited to children. My eyes were opened in a new way and we were all marked at their hearts and all they are doing to love and rescue the least of these. Definitely a worthwhile investment in anyone has a heart for this area and can't make it to the field yet or if you feel to volunteer, they are looking for people to help so they can rescue more children.

NightLight Bangkok

Wednesday we had the opportunity to lead a chapel service at NightLight which is a ministry based in the Red Light district that helps women get out of prostitution and into Jesus. During worship, we ministered to the girls as the Holy Spirit led and I can remember simply hugging one of the girls there and she just wept in my arms. It was so profound; I felt so blessed to have the privilege to cover her in the love of God. No words were needed. She felt God's embrace through me, and I wept too. What an honor. After worship, I did an altar call with the staff there, many of them who once used to be on the streets and some not yet Christians, and a girl named Jen got saved!!! 

We later got to minister as a team alongside the founders Annie and Pun to a couple women in more depth which was beautiful to see their countenance change as peace came into their hearts. Our whole team was marked by God's heart for these women and others. We are so thankful to Pu who did BSSM who connected us with these ministries. She is a special one and a true gift to Thailand!

BANGKOK: UCC Church

It was a pleasure to return to UCC, where I spoke one year ago and God marked them. We did a Friday (June 16, 2017) evening session for the leaders then a Saturday session and Sunday church. Friday I shared about Exodus 33 and how we don't want a revival if He's not in it. It was such an honor to have Ju back again this year as my translator once again, she flows so well with the Holy Spirit and we had such a blast ministering together.

It was also so special to have my brother and his wife and my baby nephew join us for the service! While I was staying with my family in Bangkok, I got to see adorable baby Luke take some of his first steps. So fun!!!

At the service, Amy called out words for healing and we believe many were touched powerfully by God during that time. During testimony time one girl said how last year when I was there that was the first time she encountered God. It was her birthday next week and she had prayed for me to come back. So precious!!! We are super grateful to Annie our incredible hostess and Obey and the team for having us back at UCC.

BALI, INDONESIA: Surf House

And because after serving hard it's important to play and celebrate all that God has done and like God Himself did when He took a Sabbath rest, a few of us flew to Bali to soak in God's love at the beach there. Super fun times. We got a free upgrade in our hotel from friend I met there last year that works at hotel. We also had honor of meeting Paula who has lived in Bali 9 years and runs Bali Surf House that welcomes Christians who have a heart for the island. She invited us to come back and minister so we now have another great excuse to return to Bali.

Thanks for everyone's love, prayers, financial investment, and support. You make a huge difference and we couldn't have made it without you. You were a part of every breakthrough, encounter, salvation, healing, friendship born, and seed planted. Ministering together at the church in Chiang Mai

As I was cleaning my room last night, I stumbled upon a folder from our first ever Healing and Revival Retreat at the Home of Peace the summer of 2012. Inside was a copy of an article by Carrie Judd Montgomery that is exactly what I have been hungering for in my life and for our community at Destiny House. The article recounts a corporate encounter they had with just twelve people and “Jesus in the midst” at the Home of Peace, the first ever healing home on the West Coast in Oakland, California. This happened years before the Azusa Street Revival of 1906.

Carrie was out preaching in another town when she received a letter from her husband George about the powerful time he and the others experienced. His letter provides insight into a powerful revivalist’s couple’s inner lives and relationship. The Montgomerys remained married their whole lives and also finished well. From this tender letter, it appears that the focus of their relationship was learning to live in the glory of God’s great love together.

I pray this article releases inspiration and impartation to dwell in even greater measures of God’s glory together as family. May this letter also inspire us to pray for or enjoy a marriage centered in God’s glory. May you be blessed today with a great wave of God’s peace and love sweeping over you and your community.

Pentecostal Blessing

“Our Home of Peace keeps full most of the time with those who need help either in soul or body. It has proved to be the very gate of heaven to many weary souls; tired Christian workers have here renewed their strength, sick bodies have been healed and hungry hearts have been filled with waves of peace for which they were longing.

While I was absent from Home during the past week holding special meetings in the Salvation Army, an unusual wave of glory visited the Home of Peace and a description of this blessed meeting was sent me in a private letter which I received from my dear husband. I feel constrained to take extracts from this letter for the benefit of my readers as I believe they will be interested to know of the blessings that the Lord is pouring upon this sweet Home so given up to His service. I quote from my husband’s letter as follows:

‘Hallelujah! Last night we had the most wonderful time ever known in Beulah, in fact, ever experienced by any one present. God opened the flood gates of Heaven and poured us out such a blessing that there was not room enough to contain it. He filled us with the joy of Heaven. The Holy Ghost was so noticeably present that we could not stand much more of the glory. We asked, what must Heaven be if God could give us so much of it down here on this earth. It came very unexpectedly upon us; we were not going to have much of a meeting. Miss B--- read the lesson and prayed, and then left us and took Mrs. H--- the sick lady up to bed, but while some of the others were praying the Holy Ghost descended in mighty power melting all of us down under His incoming presence. Such a meeting could not be described and will never be forgotten by any present either here or throughout Eternity, for God so manifestly revealed Himself unto us.

We had wonderful liberty in prayer not only for all Beulah, but for all the people in this neighborhood, and then praying for one and another as the Holy Spirit brought different ones to our remembrance. Special liberty was given in prayer for your mission in Napa Valley, we believe that the Holy Ghost will use you as the channel through which He shall pour the living waters. Keep low; keep out of sight. The Holy Ghost wants clean and mighty vessels. He will do the work, not you. Not by might or by power, but by His Spirit. Oh, how this was realized last night! As we counted up the number present we found that there were just twelve and Jesus in the midst. When it would seem as though the blessing were passing another still mightier wave would come over us, and the exultation and praise that went up to Heaven was wonderful and beautiful.

When I went up to my room I saw it was half past one this morning, and then I felt as though I could not bear to go to sleep. Jesus was so manifestly present. He talked with me and I could see Him in a wonderful, real way, as never before. The Word was illuminated under this might baptism of the Holy Spirit, and I understood it better than ever before. Oh, I am sure that it is our privilege not to be half full, but to be filled to overflowing, and that all the time, and the overflowing rivers will then be poured out to a thirsty, lost world. Well, I can never get through telling you so I will have to wait till you return, if we do not meet in the air before the week is over. Last night many of us felt that a little more of this glory in our souls would have translated us. We were all like a lot of people drunk with new wine of the Kingdom. Hallelujah! Hallelujah.’”

As Thanksgiving is upon us, I have been reflecting upon the topic of giving thanks and have been overwhelmed with gratitude for all that the Lord has done through the years. I have been reminded of the Lord’s grace, kindness, and provision. I have recognized that I am usually a lot happier and more peaceful when I’m thankful and when I focus on what the Lord is doing rather than on what He’s not.

I have discovered that some of the rewards of practicing gratitude are a fresh perspective of Heaven and a peace that passes understanding. I pray that my thoughts on of stewarding peace impart great courage to remain in Him no matter what comes your way.

In Psalm 100, the Psalmist talks about entering His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;

Give thanks to him and praise his name

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;

His faithfulness continues through all generations.

              Psalm 100:4-5

Thanksgiving and praise usher us into His presence with a sweet invitation to take hold of more of Him. These two pairs are significant attributes that help us better cultivate a lifestyle of intimacy with Jesus and peace that passes understanding.

Thankfulness

Let’s start with Thankfulness. In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, it says

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

This verse says be joyful always. It doesn’t say just to be joyful when we feel like it or when God has done something marvelous on our behalf but to be full of joy always. We can choose to be full of joy as we meditate on Him. This verse also says to give thanks in all circumstances. In the most horrible of circumstances, might there be one small seed of hope remaining that we can recognize and praise Him for? He is not saying that we should celebrate and give thanks for bad things that happen to us. We know in Romans 8:28, He will turn bad things around for our good but that doesn’t make these bad circumstances any less painful. He says in the midst of them however, that we should give thanks to Him regardless of what is going on around us.

No matter what storms may come or go in our life, surrounding circumstances don’t change the fact that God is good and worthy of our praise. He is always faithful, He always remains, He will never leave nor forsake us, and He has already given His one and only Son for us. We have already been invited to partake of an eternity with Him in Heaven. Many of us have a roof over our heads and people around us that love us. There is always something to be thankful for despite the circumstances. It’s our job to keep our eyes on what God is doing, not on what He is not doing. What positive things can you give thanks for today regardless of the state of your present circumstances?

Philippians 4:4-7 says

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Here we see it said again, to rejoice in the Lord always! Here we also discover that one of the secrets to stewarding peace in every situation is through surrendering our heavy hearts to the Lord, trusting Him with our requests, and by giving Him an offering of thanksgiving. Thanksgiving frees up our mind from all the weights and concerns we carry and repositions us in a place of trusting Him to carry us. It reminds us that He is always faithful and just as He has come through in the past, He will come through again. It shifts our focus off of our problems and onto His goodness.

Praise

As we saw earlier in Psalm 100, praise also goes before us into His inner courts. Praise is a magnet for God’s presence. He loves it when we praise Him. The circumstances around us should never dictate the measure of praise we pour out to our faithful King. In those moments of great pain where everything is against us and we feel like there’s no hope, we have a choice. We can sink deeper down into depression or we can put our hope in God and praise Him anyway. Despite our situations, we can offer Him a sacrifice of praise. It’s easy to praise Him when things go our way, but to praise Him when our world is falling apart is one of the most sacred offerings of love we can give.

Praise not only precedes us entering deeper into the Secret Place but also precedes many breakthroughs. In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat was about to face one of the largest armies he had ever seen. He and his people’s death were imminent. He responded by gathering his community together to seek the Lord. In that meeting, a prophet spoke up saying that God would deliver them. When the king heard this, he bowed down with his face to the ground and all of the people of Judah and Jerusalem also fell down and worshipped the Lord. Then the Levites stood up and praised the Lord with a very loud voice. This all happened before there was any victory at all.

Then the next morning, they geared up for battle and got in formation. The King positioned the worshippers in the front line of the army to sing to the Lord and to praise Him for the splendor of His holiness. They were to sing

           Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.

                      2 Chronicles 20:21

Here we see it again, the giving of thanks. Why would anyone sing praises to God and songs of thanksgiving right before they were about to face the largest army they had ever seen before? It is because they trusted in the word of the Lord and they understood the power of praise and thanksgiving. It was as they began to sing praises to God that the Lord set ambushes against the invading army. By the time Jehoshaphat’s army came to the place that overlooks the desert, they looked towards the vast army and only saw dead bodies. In the midst of their thanksgiving and praise to God in the face of great danger, He worked behind the scenes to fight on their behalf and to bring them into great victory.

We do not give God thanks and praise so that we can get some massive breakthrough but simply because we love and adore Him. We thank and praise Him because of all that He has done for us. However, in that heart stance, we don’t know what God is doing behind the scenes on our behalf as we engage in thanksgiving and praise. I can guarantee you that no matter what your current situation is right now, if you begin to turn your eyes upon Jesus, thank Him for all He has done, and praise Him for His faithfulness, you will experience a new measure of peace. Though your circumstances may remain the same, your perspective will shift. New hope will arise and a peace that passes understanding will guard your heart and your mind. You will begin to walk in a place of victory like never before.

3 Keys to Stewarding Peace

In my life, when I am struggling with some issue, whenever I turn my affection towards Jesus and worship Him even more fiercely, something shifts. Sometimes it takes a little while before I can break into peace, but if I set my heart to get my eyes off of myself and onto Him, He fills me with peace and grace to stand. I encourage you to steward peace in your life by making it a pattern to

·      Rejoice in the Lord always

·      Give thanks in all circumstances

·      Keep Your eyes on Jesus

Activating a Thankful Heart

In light of thanksgiving, I want to encourage you to think of five people in your life who have impacted you, loved you well, or played a key role in your life. Who are a few of the people God is highlighting right now that you are truly grateful for? Now I want to challenge you to write an email, send a text message, call them up on the phone, or have coffee with them and express your gratitude for the gift of God they have been in your life.

Blessing you with a spirit of thanksgiving, a refined focus on Jesus and on what He is doing all around you, and a peace that passes understanding as you rejoice in Him today.
